Infinite Games
The Key to a Fulfilling Life
What’s going on?
Checking in from Grand Lake, CO.
Haven’t sent out a newsletter in a bit - so I wanted to get one out today before I go hike in Rocky Mountain National Park.
This week I’ve been feeling very grateful for life.
It got me thinking, “why does life seem so good right now?”
And I’m happy to say I think I was able to distill it down to one main factor: playing 3 infinite games at all times…
a trade/ profession/ career that compounds over time
a physical game
an artistic game
But what exactly is an infinite game?
It’s not your usual win-or-lose scenario.
It’s not about beating the person next to you, clocking the highest score, or bagging trophies.
Let’s break it down…
Infinite Games
Infinite Games are those aspects of our lives that are ongoing, where the goal isn't to win in a traditional sense, but to keep playing and to perpetuate the play itself.
These games are not about reaching a final victory, but about continuing to evolve, grow, and enjoy the journey.
1. A Trade/Profession/Career That Compounds Over Time
This is about choosing a path that grows with you.
It's not just about climbing the corporate ladder or hitting targets; it’s about pursuing a career that builds on itself every day, every year.
Whether you’re mastering your craft, the goal is to deepen your expertise and impact to the world over time.
It’s an infinite game because there’s no ultimate win.
There’s always more to learn, more challenges to tackle, more ways to grow, and better ways to contribute.
2. A Physical Game
Committing to your physical health and well-being is a game without a finish line as well.
Whether it’s daily runs, yoga, pickup basketball, or MMA, it’s about maintaining and improving your physical capabilities.
This game is infinite because your body is always evolving, responding to new stimuli, and reaching for higher levels - if you continue to push yourself.
It’s about the joy found in the activity itself, not just the results it brings.
But diving into these activities does more than just boost your physical health; it significantly impacts your mental wellbeing also.
Engaging in physical challenges fires up your brain's endorphines (feel-good chemicals), making you feel calmer and happier.
Plus, as you see your body transform and your abilities grow, the spike in confidence is undeniable.
It’s a common saying in sports “look good, feel good, play good” - but it could be equally applied to life as “look good, feel good, live good”.
3. An Artistic Game
Engaging in a creative endeavor is inherently infinite.
Whether you paint, play an instrument, write poetry, or design buildings, these activities don’t have a point of completion.
Each piece you create is a stepping stone to the next, with the journey defined by exploration, expression, and growth.
It’s about playing to see what’s possible, to discover new facets of your creativity, and to share your unique perspective with the world.
In this artistic game, it's all about tapping into that endless well of creativity within you.
It’s not just making art; it's about connecting deeply with yourself, exploring the vast landscapes of your inner-realm.
Each creation is a conversation, a step further into understanding who you are and what you’re capable of.
Why This Matters
Infinite games transform how we approach life.
They shift our focus from seeking external validation to cherishing personal growth and fulfillment.
These games are not about outdoing someone else but about constantly surpassing our own internal benchmarks, driven by our unique curiosities, and a desire to explore our full potential.
Getting Into the Game
So, how can you dive into these infinite games?
Identify Your Passions: What type of work do you find most enjoyable or fulfilling? What physical activity makes you feel alive? What creative pursuits capture your imagination? Start there.
Set Personal Milestones: Forget about societal measures of success. Define what achievement means to you in each area and celebrate when you reach these personal milestones.
Enjoy the Process: Learn to find satisfaction in the daily grind of pursuing your goals. The real joy comes from playing the game, not necessarily from the outcomes.
Balance is Key: Don’t let one game consume you. The interplay between professional growth, physical health, and creative expression is what enriches your life.
As I prepare to immerse myself in the forest awaiting me on my hike - I’m reminded of the importance of keeping these infinite games in play.
Infinite games make life dynamic and endlessly fascinating.
Stay engaged, keep pushing, and remember: the beauty of the infinite game is in the journey, not the destination.
Thanks for reading!
I hope you found it somewhat interesting and/ or useful.
Until next time - keep playing your infinite games.
Cheers,
Hunter
